Sawa i Lau caves PDF Print E-mail
Off the southern tip of Yasawa Island (exclusive resort) are limestone caves on the beautiful Sawa-i-Lau Island which are popular for its large limestone cave illuminated by a crevice at the top.

They are famous for being one location for the Blue Lagoon Movie with Brooke Shields (1980).

Going there from Nacula or Nayula Lailai cost 30$ and is really worth. These caves were considered a sancturary for fijian gods and locals don't like to go there even now.

Only 10,000 fijians have entered the caves on a population of 1,000,000.

Tip: Bring your snorkling equipement as the underwater scenery is most impressive in the underwater cave: the light plays with the shadow in a marvelous game.

Entering a dark cave by foot and then going down some steps carved in the rock until a small drop off into a pool.

After swimming a few meters, the cave opens up at the top.

There is a wall where you have to swim underwater to access the second cave. Thanks to the guide and an underwater light, this is all very easy.

Swimmin in this underground cave is awe-inspiring and your voice reverbate all around like if we were in a cathedral.
